Freight forwarding software: what it must do in 2026

Most small forwarders run on a mix of Excel, email, messaging apps and a folder of CMRs. It works — until the order count grows. Then documents go missing, invoices get typed twice and "where is the truck" is a phone call. This is for the moment you start looking for freight forwarding software, and for what to expect before you buy.

One order, one process

The test is simple: do you type the same thing twice? If the client's request is re-typed into the carrier order, then into the CMR, then into the invoice — that is four forms, not software. A good system starts from the order and produces everything else from it: the carrier order with the terms, the driver instruction, the CMR with parties and goods filled in, the invoice with price and currency, the client notification at loading and delivery.

What to check before you sign

What you do not need

Not a "logistics ERP" with 400 screens and a six-month rollout. A 3–15 person forwarder needs something a dispatcher learns in an afternoon.

How Nucra is built

Nucra is built around exactly this process: one order drives the carrier, the driver, the CMR, the invoice and the payment, and you see only what needs a decision. There is also a free CMR generator with no sign-up. If that is how you want to work, request access and try it on your own orders.
